Introduction

Chandranagar Mahila Samajik Sanstha (CMSS) is a registered community development agency based in Bhandup, Mumbai. It was observed that women from the unorganized sector in India are socially and economically weak and we needed an organization which would help them find a proper base for work and thus improve their overall living condition. For very long time, there was a need for such an organization that would bring the much needed change in the lives of women. We aim to organize women to earn a living through their own labour or small businesses so they can become self-reliant. Most of our members are housewives with a lot of potential. So far, we have undertaken many projects and have successfully executed them collectively.  Our unity is our strength and we are determined to keep it and grow not only in Bhandup but all over Mumbai.

The Objectives of CMSS are

To make women self-reliant and conscious of their human and constitutional rights and to put pressure on the state for fulfilling its obligation towards its people

  1. To nurture women’s physical and emotional health
  2. To provide vocational training and financial means to women for self- employment
  3. To create a sustainable and humane mode of development through people’s active involvement
  4. To create a progressive space in society for allits deprived people, and to specifically resist casteism, sexism, religious chauvinism and homophobia
  5. To work towards the elimination of discrimination, inequality, intolerance and violence – both within and outside the home
  6. To work towards the creation of a society based on equality, freedom, democracy, diversity and peace

We are already in talks with govt. agencies like Micro Small Medium Enterprise (MSME), Khadi and Village Industries Corporation(KVIC), Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (MACCIA)to provide training of our members, which will equip us to face business challenges.
